Magi
also known as magus, the Magi
The priest-seers of antiquity — originally the Zoroastrian priesthood of Persia, masters of astrology, dream-reading, and sacred rite. It is from them that the word 'magic' descends. At Delphi the magi raised the serpent-borne tripod over the earth's fissure.
Old Persian magus, via Greek magos — a member of the Persian priestly caste.
