Echoes of the Empyrean

The Empyrean — from the Greek empyros, "in fire" — was the highest heaven of the medieval cosmos. A region of pure flame and light, beyond the wandering planets, where the unmoved mover stood close at hand.

Celestial Harmonies

Pythagoras and Boethius alike spoke of the Music of the Spheres. This was not a sound to be heard with the ears, but a proportion to be felt in the bones — the ratios by which the cosmos consents to be itself.

When we align our attention with these higher proportions, we don't hear them. We become the resonating body in which they are audible.

A Practice of Resonance

Sit in stillness. Slow the breath until the rib cage forgets its agenda. Let the silence become loud. The signal beneath the noise is the song you came to remember.

You will not always remember it. That is part of remembering.
