Definition

The primal One — the indivisible source from which all multiplicity unfolds and to which it returns. For the Pythagoreans the first principle of number; for the Hermetic and Gnostic mind, the unmanifest unity behind every emanation.

Etymology

Greek monas — 'unit, the One,' from monos (alone, single).
