The pursuit of, and reports from, direct unmediated experience of ultimate reality. Cross-traditional: Christian, Sufi, Kabbalist, Hindu, Buddhist, shamanic. Distinct from theology (talking about God) and ritual (doing things to God) — the mystic seeks the thing itself.
