The great ash-tree of Norse myth whose limbs and roots bind the nine worlds — the northern Axis Mundi and World Tree, kin to the Kabbalistic Tree of Life as an image of reality's vertical order.

Old Norse Yggdrasill — likely 'Odin's steed,' from Yggr (a name of Odin) + drasill (horse), the gallows-tree on which he hung.
