Themis

Definition

The primordial goddess of divine law and right order — 'mistress of Karma' — whose voice, with Gaia's, the shepherds first heard rising from the Delphic fissure. She held the oracle before Apollo, a titaness of cosmic justice.

Etymology

Greek Themis — 'that which is laid down, established law,' from tithenai, 'to set, to place.'
